For years athletic footwear was just that! You bought your runners and you used them for running, playing games and casual wear. Everybody who was young had running shoes. Then tennis shoes became known as athletic footwear and things changed. No longer could you use one pair of athletic shoes for games, running, and casual wear. Athletic shoes had gone high tech. There were basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and soccer shoes. There were aerobic shoes for Pilates and running on the treadmill. There were special shoes for bicycling. And there were athletic shoes designed especially for jogging while others were intended for runners. Even marathon runners had specially designed footwear. Athletic footwear for special purpose athletics became big revenue for big companies such as Nike, Reebok and Adidas. In return they paid designers handsomely to design athletic foot wear for specific athletic activities.

The fashion scene picked up on all this hoopla about athletic footwear and designer shoes made a debut. There were shoes endorsed by Michael Jordan and others modeled by famous athletes in every sport. Kids were no longer content to have running shoes unless they had a designer label and cost a week's pay.

Thankfully, we seem to have come full circle back to multi-purpose athletic foot wear. We've returned to the all-purpose athletic shoe-but with a twist. What a multi-purpose shoe it is! High tech is once again ruling the sports shoe industry. Introducing shoes like Reebok's ZigTech. The ZigTech is a lightweight shoe with a zigzag tread. The creators of athletic shoes like the ZigTech insist that it provides extra cushioning and an energizing effect during any athletic workout. The zigzag design allows air to assist the athlete's movement. This creates what sports medicine which calls "micro-instability". The zigzag design is intended to work the muscles of ankles and calf which don't normally get exercise. Buyers and analysts of sport footwear have given shoes like Reebok's ZigTech top marks for versatility, lightweight, and comfort and relief from muscle strain.

New models of ZigTech technology include: The Kinetic Fit, custom fitted to each athlete's foot; the Smooth Fit model with no seams to irritate the athlete's foot. The DMXS ZigTech reduces joint impact. The DMX Ride provides extra cushioning and the Play Dry was created to keep the athlete's feet dry.

Athletic shoes like Reebok's ZigTech offer athletes multi-purpose shoes for almost any sport, walking, running, or travel. Owners are ecstatic about the high comfort, light weight, cushioning against impact sports and comfort for the foot. Parents applaud the fashion appeal for their kids and the fact that they are no longer forced to purchase a different pair of expensive running shoes for each sport.
