For years athletic footwear was just that! You bought your runners and you used them for running, playing games and casual wear. Everybody who was young had running shoes. The fashion scene picked up on all this hoopla about athletic footwear and designer shoes made a debut. There were shoes endorsed by Michael Jordan and others modeled by famous athletes in every sport. Kids were no longer content to have running shoes unless they had a designer label and cost a week's pay.
